Bar Conversations

Several weeks ago, one of the house group leaders in the new church plant felt a strong impression that he should begin going to a bar near the Netzwerk Haus called “The Black Witch.” Since it was the perfect opportunity to help the guys I am discipling understand practical Missional living, we started going there on the nights when we meet. It didn’t take long to realize that was something we were supposed to be doing.

It is one of those places where community is already happening. There is a small crowd of regulars that attend there the night that we go in, and before long they started to expect us. The owner, Y, began to learn our names and talk to us, and people began to teach us dice games and interact with us.

Last week, there were just three of us so after a while, as the crowd died down, the owner came and sat at our table to talk. She began by asking us how we knew each other. I answered that we all attended the same church. When she found out we were Christians, she went on to talk to us about God and spiritual things for an hour and a half. She was full of questions. It was obvious that she had been dealing with God for some time.

Last night we went back again, in spite of the fact that we were all very tired and felt like staying home and doing some Bible Study. It felt important that we go again after the conversation the week before. This time, the own came and sat with us immediately and resumed asking questions. It was no time at all before I was able to share the Gospel with her. She is open and receptive. Now she just needs to make a decision.

Please keep her in your prayers. It looks as though she is about ready.

That's very exciting. I'll be praying for her.

We'll be praying! Our SS lesson last week was from Mark 2 about putting new wine in old wineskins and patching old garments with new cloth. As we were challenged to think beyond our traditions, it's good to see that you are doing that.
