That the Walls Will Continue to Fall Down.

Monday was a big day in our part of the world. It has been 20 years since freedom was returned to the people of eastern Germany. When we read or see the way life was for people and especially Christians under the old regime, it gives us a special reason to rejoice. It was truly a “cloak and dagger” endeavor to see the Kingdom of God advance in those days. I read this week some exciting stories of God’s work in those days and several answers to prayer, not the least of which was the fall of the totalitarian regime itself, as hundreds of thousands of people turned out for “prayer meetings” leading up to the end.

Unfortunately, much of that ended up being political more than spiritual, as the true spiritual condition of East Germany if anything, is worse. Eight out of ten people here claim to believe in absolutely nothing. The churches see less people today than in the days when they were persecuted. It is going to take people living out their faith day to day and churches that are built around a more relational model of missional living rather than a traditional and attractional model of ministry to help people see the truth. Thankfully, that is exactly what appears to be happening all over!

Continue to pray for the people of Saxony, that they will see the hope and freedom they truly can have instead of longing for the days when they had some security without freedom.
