Wow. It has been too long since we updated you with what has been happening here. Probably because a lot has been happening. Here is a look at some of the highlights form the first half of 2009:
Hands On:
We had four wonderful ladies here for 20 weeks this year, doing a long term volunteer term. It was a real challenge and a (good?) taste of what cross cultural missional living is like. The challenge comes from the fact that they had limited language ability and unlike longer termed personnel, they didn't get to spend thier first 6 months to a year in language school. In spite of that, they had a great impact on our work here. They did a lot of spiritual mapping for us, especially in the university and New Town areas of the city. They also got to interact with Germans who wanted to talk to Americans or practice English. A lot of what happened for us in these six months was because of the catalytic effect the girls had for us.
Netzwerk
Plans we began with a national partner last year came to fruition in New Town, where we have started a house church that is intended from the beginning to divide and multiply. Out of this effort we have also:
-Gained a new national team member: Charlotte Frei. She is heading up the Netzwerk effort and brings incredible energy and engagement to the team.
-Started discipling new national leaders Christof, Alex, Kristof, and Matze.
Creative Arts Engagement
Amy has nearly completed her full-time language and is beginning to get into the art and artistic community here in Dresden. That is when she is not helping the new church plant or doing street evangelism with the punk community downtown.
Exper!ence
In the south of town, around the University, we have helped the Dresden Baptist church start a new mission built around a non-traditional "cell church" model. The plan is for them to be a stand alone church in two years!.
