Prayerwalking Files: Streisen-West

Striesen-West (shaded Red) is a largely residential neighborhood south of the Elbe and East of downtown. This area of Dresden (shaded green) is the most densely populated. Nearly 12,000 people live in Striesen-West. The average age is 45.

1. Beginning in the northwest corner, we see lots of townhouse style apartments. Several families live in each building, each with their own apartment.
2. Striesen has some charming street-lamps throughout. However, most people here have never really encountered the Light.
3. Remodeling is something one sees all over Dresden. Sometimes buildings have stood in semi-destruction since the war, often they are simply renovated after years of disrepair.

12. These recycling bins are emptied at least once a week, sometimes more often. This glass one is overflowing with wine bottles. The culture in Germany involves a lot of alcohol consumption, but one wonders if there is an abuse with the lack of hope many people have here.

16. One of the Catholic churches in town. There are about half as many as there are Lutheran churches.
